There is plenty of information out there for parents of struggling readers. I have a 10-year-old who has been working through a lot of reading struggles. And a 7-year-old. Both of them have wonderful teachers who made sure that we try lots of things to help them with their skills. It is still possible to make sure that your kids still love reading, even when they struggle with reading. By reading aloud and along with my slow reader, I have helped him love books, even it is not his preferred form of entertainment.
As a kid, I could read a chapter book in a matter of days, and sometimes hours. Ethan took a while to work through the first book of the Percy Jackson series. I am really proud of him for persisting. He is feeling eager to continue, but I know it will not be anytime soon.
If you are looking for ways to help your slow reader, you may enjoy listening to Ethan share about what attracted him to this series.
